Terms of service.

Last updated · 17 May 2026

Welcome to WordScope. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are the agreement between you and Spark Labz Inc. ("we," "us," "our") for your use of the WordScope iOS app and any related services we provide.

We've tried to keep this readable. The short version is: use the app, enjoy it, don't try to break it, and understand that subscriptions auto-renew unless you cancel.

By downloading or using WordScope, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

What WordScope is

WordScope is an iOS app that helps English learners build everyday vocabulary through a daily five-word loop, spaced repetition, a home-screen widget, and a calendar streak. It is provided by Spark Labz and distributed through Apple's App Store.

WordScope runs on your device. Your learning data is stored locally on your iPhone. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Who can use it

You can use WordScope if:

If you're under the age where you can enter into a contract, please use the app only with a parent or guardian's permission.

WordScope is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from children. See our Privacy Policy for more.

Your account

WordScope has no account system. There is no sign-up, no login, no email, no password. Your progress is tied to the device you installed the app on.

That means:

Subscriptions and purchases

WordScope offers three paid options, all sold through Apple's in-app purchase system. Apple handles payment, billing, refunds, and any other financial part of the transaction. We just unlock features based on Apple's confirmation that you've paid.

What we offer

Prices listed are in US dollars. Prices in your local currency, taxes, and any regional adjustments are set and shown by Apple at the point of purchase.

Free trial

The monthly and yearly subscriptions include a 5-day free trial for eligible Apple IDs. Eligibility is determined by Apple under their standard introductory-offer rules — generally, you have to be a new subscriber to that product. At the end of the trial, your subscription begins and you are billed the standard price unless you cancel beforehand.

Auto-renewal (important)

Subscriptions automatically renew unless you cancel. Specifically:

This disclosure mirrors what Apple requires under section 3.1.2 of the App Review Guidelines. It also appears in the app before you subscribe.

WordScope Forever (lifetime)

WordScope Forever is a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase. After buying it:

Restoring purchases

If you reinstall WordScope, get a new device, or otherwise lose access to a subscription or your WordScope Forever unlock, open the app and tap Restore Purchases. WordScope uses Apple's StoreKit to verify your entitlement with Apple and unlock the features you've paid for.

Refunds

Refunds for App Store purchases — including WordScope Pro subscriptions and WordScope Forever — are handled by Apple, not by us. We cannot directly issue refunds, and we cannot see your payment method.

To request a refund:

  1. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
  2. Find the WordScope purchase and choose "Request a refund."
  3. Follow Apple's prompts. Apple decides whether to grant the refund per their refund policy.

If you ran into a problem with the app itself, email us (see "Contact" at the bottom) and we'll try to help — but the actual refund must go through Apple.

Price changes

We may change subscription prices in the future. If we do, Apple will notify you in advance and ask you to confirm the new price before any renewal at the new rate. If you don't agree, you can cancel.

Your responsibilities

When you use WordScope, you agree not to:

These are the standard "please don't break the thing" rules.

Third-party terms

When you use WordScope, you must also comply with any applicable third-party terms of agreement — for example, your wireless data plan or any other service you use to access the app.

Our intellectual property

WordScope — including the app, the word lists and definitions we write or curate, the artwork, the UI, the name "WordScope," and the Spark Labz branding — is owned by Spark Labz (or the parties we've licensed it from). Downloading the app gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use it on Apple devices you own or control. It doesn't transfer ownership of anything to you.

If we use any third-party data sources or word definitions licensed from others, those sources retain their own rights, and any required attributions appear in the app's About / Acknowledgements section.

"As is" — no warranties

We work hard on WordScope, and we want it to be great. But we have to say this clearly: the app is provided "as is" and "as available." That means:

Some jurisdictions don't allow disclaiming all warranties. If you live in one, parts of this section may not apply to you, and you may have additional consumer rights under local law.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law:

Again — if you live somewhere these limits aren't enforceable (parts of the EU and elsewhere), they apply to you only to the extent the law allows.

Indemnity

If you use the app in a way that violates these Terms or the law, and that causes someone else (including us) to sue or be sued or to incur costs, you agree to take responsibility for that — meaning you'll cover reasonable legal costs and damages tied to your misuse. This does not apply to claims that arise from our own behavior.

Apple-specific terms

Because WordScope is distributed through Apple's App Store, the following Apple-required terms also apply:

Ending these Terms

You can stop using WordScope at any time. Just uninstall the app. If you have an active subscription, remember to cancel it via Apple as described above, or it will keep renewing.

We can suspend or end your access to the app if you seriously violate these Terms or use the app in a way that breaks the law. Because the app runs on your device and not on our servers, this would mainly mean we stop providing future updates or refuse to do business with you on future purchases — we don't have a "ban" button that reaches into your phone.

If we ever discontinue WordScope entirely, we'll let you know in advance through an in-app notice or App Store update notes. Subscriptions that have already been paid will be honored for the period you paid for, to the extent technically possible.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.

If a dispute arises, we'd much prefer to resolve it by email first — please contact us before doing anything more formal. If that doesn't work, the dispute will be resolved in the courts located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and you and Spark Labz agree to that venue.

If you live somewhere with mandatory consumer protections (for example, the EU), those local laws still apply to you and override anything in this section that would reduce your rights.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time — for example, when we add new features, change pricing, or need to clarify something. When we make a material change, we will:

If you keep using WordScope after a change takes effect, that means you accept the updated Terms. If you don't accept them, please stop using the app and (if you have an active subscription) cancel it through Apple before the next renewal.

Minor edits (typos, clarifications) may happen without a notice, but we'll still bump the date.
